Hakimi rape case: public prosecutors call for PSG and Morocco star to be tried


French prosecutors called on Friday to Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi to be tried for the alleged rape of a woman in 2023 who denies the Moroccan international.

The office of the public prosecutor told the public prosecutor AFP That they had asked that the investigating judge had referred the rape to a criminal bank.

Although the woman refused to make a formal accusation, public prosecutors decided to press charges against the player.

Contacted by AFP After Friday’s development, Hakimi’s lawyer Fanny Colin described the call of public prosecutors for a process as «incomprehensible and pointless in the light of the elements of the case».

“We, together with Achraf Hakimi, remain as calm as at the start of the procedure.

«If these applications were followed, we would of course pursue all roads by profession,» she continued.

According to Colin, her client was «the target of an attempted extortion».

«Nothing in this case suggests an attempt at extortion,» said Rachel-Flore Pardo, the lawyer who represents the woman.

«My client welcomes this news with enormous relief,» she said AFP.

«We will not tolerate a defamation or destabilization campaign, as unfortunately is still too often the case for women who have the courage to report the rape of which they are the victim,» she added.

The son of a cleaning lady and a street seller, both Moroccans who have been living in Spain since the 1980s, was born in Getafe, a southern suburb of Madrid.

Hakimi came through the youth system in Real Madrid before he came to Bundesliga Side Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

He went 73 performances for the German club.

He moved to Inter Milan in 2020 and then to PSG in 2021, where he established himself as an integral part of the team.

In Qatar, Hakimi was a cornerstone of the Morocco team that became the first African or Arabic nation that reached the semi -final of a world cup.
