Italian top players will see their salaries reduced by 25 percent if their teams are banned to series B, under a new agreement between the Italian footballers’ association and Serie A.
The five -year agreement was announced on Tuesday. The wage reduction is aimed at relieving the financial pressure on clubs that fall from the Serie A and apply to all contracts signed after 2 September 2025 – the end of the transfer window.

The new system automatically reduces salaries unless otherwise stated in a player’s contract. Existing deals remain subject to previously agreed conditions.
If a team promotion returns to Serie A, the affected salaries will return to their original value. The collective negotiating agreement also introduces a minimal salary structure based on the age of a player that cannot be reduced, even after relegation.
