SAzadas are a deeply personal team choice and what works very well for a person could be a disaster for another. I have always hesitated to review a couple of shoes for that reason, but I have been wearing moles in recent years and I was excited to try a new model with the MTN Racer 4.
These notable characteristics of the trails of trails include the spacious tip of Topo, the outer vibram sole and the increase in damping. Topo Athletic has become a popular brand in the world of walks and running in recent times, and it was the #1 shoes brand used on the path of the Appalaches in 2024. Learning about them through the AT survey is actually what led me to give an attempt of mole a couple of years ago.

Planned use
These shoes are the best for running and races. Certainly they can also be used for hiking and backpack, but I can see how they are more oriented towards runners compared to some of their other models. In my opinion, the high cushion without sacrificing the response capacity of the shoe is what gives them that advantage to run. I put them to the test while walking, ran and ran in the course of checking them.
Review circumstance
I tried the MTN Racer 4 in a wide variety of types of paths and activities in recent months. I have used them to run, in a path of trails, hiking, a backpacking trip during the night and even some highway miles. The various lands in which I used them include mud, some snow patches, packed trails, steep and rocky trails, and some path. I have put a total of approximately 50 miles in them so far.
Characteristics
Anatomical box
All moles have the feet box of the shape of the foot that many hikers have come to know and love. It is particularly great for those of us with wide feet (including me). They combine this with a safe foot and heel, so they are not too loose. I think that people without wide feet could benefit from the spacious box of the feet: sincerely, it is a change of play and would not return to a shoe without it.
As many people find out about the children, most people are grobing their feet in shoes that are too small for them without even realizing, which leads to the pain of the feet and blisters. Let your fingers breathe!
Vibram sole
Vibram is the gold standard when it comes to traction. I know I will be in good hands with any vibram sole in terms of traction and wear time. It gives me more confidence in those rocky or wet paths.
Zip foam cushion
I really wanted to try a higher cushion model of the moles. The MTN Racer 4 has its patented zip foam that is more elastic than Eva and offers more rebounds about the life of the shoe. I found the damping to give the benefits of the foam without being excessive and make the shoe feel too soft or unstable. The response capacity of the MTN corridor also allowed me to feel the ground very well, which is not what I would expect from a higher padded shoe, but I appreciated it.
Polaina compatibility
The MTN Racer 4 includes an updated and (mostly universal controversial attachment system. This is definitely an advantage for travel when you want to keep excess of debris out of your shoes. I did not have the opportunity to use this, but it seems a solid and intuitive system.
Alcoholic
A 5 mm drop falls into the middle of the range for most running shoes. The heel fall is something that has a lot to do with the foot of each specific person and the style of running or walking. It is definitely something to take note and compare what your feet are accustomed, since changing it significantly too fast can cause problems.
Zero Drop is a popular option, but, personally, it doesn’t work well for me. I usually go to a 3-5 mm drop, so this shoe was great for me.
Durability
I have put about 50 miles in these shoes, and so far I do not see real signs of wear more than the earth spots. I have had several pairs of moles at this time, and I have almost always replaced them due to the number of miles that I have put in place of any wear in the superiors. My signal to replace them is to look at the damping and see how compressed it is or if I notice that my feet begin to be more sore than usual after a race or walk. For me, if the damping of its use is the first thing that should go to a shoe, it is working well in terms of durability.
Adjustment and comfort
As mentioned above, the MTN Racer 4 has a spacious tip box like all Athletic Topo shoes. I found that this model fits a little more to half of the foot than other moles that I have used in the same size (a 10 of women). The other models I have tried were a more walking shoe (The Terraventure) and a couple of racing models.
They felt that they had a bit different way to other models of their shoes, which is totally normal in a brand. The heel was also a bit more loose. I had to take time to break them and improve my lace strategy to work for me. However, after breaking them, they were still very comfortable. In the future, I could consider climbing half size in MTN runners for just a little more space in the midfield.
These shoes also have neutral support, which I always look for in a shoe, and it is another aspect of a shoe that is different for everyone.
MTN Racer 4 Pros
High mattress: The damping helps your feet hurt less, and I am in favor of that! I have not had the opportunity to use a path with a higher level of cushion so far. He certainly did not disappoint.
Sensitivity: Obtaining an additional impulse from your shoe really allows you to bow in the field where you are, and I appreciated it from the MTN Racer.
Vibram sole: Having a good traction is very important with the technical terrain, and Vibram’s sole with great earrings in the MTN Racer 4 will do well.
MTN Racer Topo 4 cons
Fit: This model felt a little more comfortable in the middle of the foot, but loosely in the heel than other mole models, and took more time to enter for me. For someone with a different way than me, this could be something good.
No rock plate: A rock dish is always a good addition to a trail shoe, but I did not feel that it would have been surprised a lot. It is always a balance of what the characteristics work together and can choose so many for a couple of shoes.
In general
Topo Athletic has taken another solid path shoe with the MTN Racer 4. I would recommend it to hikers, especially the trails of trails. Definitely, take a look at all specifications to make sure it is something that works for you between the heel fall, the type of support and anything else in a shoe is also partial.
