Manchester City to Liverpool – Coach Gareth Taylor switches WSL sides for a new season


Gareth Taylor has been appointed head coach of the Laverpool women’s team, the club announced on Friday, five months after being fired by Manchester City.

The 52-year-old COACHED FIVE YEARS City, which led to FA Cup and League Cup triumphs, and a narrow second place to Chelsea in the Women’s Super League (WSL) in 2024 that was determined by goal difference.

But he was fired by City in March, only five days before the final of the League Cup against Chelsea, with the club quoting the team’s underperformance.

City finished fourth in the WSL last season, while Liverpool was seventh.

«Everyone in football is aware of history, the size and potential of (Liverpool), and I am really looking forward to the task that lies in front of us,» Taylor said. «Our goal is to create a team that supporters can be proud of, that playing good football and that hopefully will bring success along the way.»

Andy O’Boyle, director of Liverpool’s women’s program, greeted the agreement and said that Taylor «has a proven track record to build successful, identity -driven teams and his ability to develop players and to help them reach the next level is unparalleled.»

Taylor takes the lead over the closed-door-friendly on Saturday against Aston Villa in Bodymoor Heath.

The WSL season starts on September 6.
