Will Lionel Messi participate in the MLS match of Inter Miami against Orlando City?

Inter Miami Superstar Lionel Messi will not travel for Sunday’s game in Orlando City because of a «small» muscle injury in his right leg, said coach Javier Mascherano on Saturday.

Messi sustained the injury during the Leagues Cup match last weekend against Necaxa. There is no timeline for the return of the attacker.

«No, Leo will not be available tomorrow,» said Mascherano Saturday, per ESPN. «Leo is ok, but it would of course be crazy to take the risk of bringing him to Orlando because of everything that lies for us. We are optimistic that he will return to us soon.»

Messi, 38, came in this weekend with 18 goals, connected to Sam Surridge of Nashville SC for the leadership in the chase for the Golden Boot. The resident of Argentina also has nine assists in 18 ml competitions (17 starts) this season.

After a visit to Orlando City, the Herons will organize Los Angeles FC next Saturday before they will be confronted with Tigres Uanl on 20 August in the quarterfinals of the League Cup on August 20 in Fort Lauderdale.
