Climbing steep stairs on the hillside in the mountain in France and Grubbin ‘in quiche in the clouds of refuge du lac blanc – day 8 in the tour du Mont Blanc

Entering back to France

Yesterday we returned to France on the 7th to take refuge to Colme Colme after an exhausting scale in the scorching heat, but they were rewarded with crazy views, some vegetable soup and a delicious brownie.

Descent to Tre-Le-Bamp

On the 8th, our walk began with a funny crest rise that had a mixture of light hiking and boulder to CRETE des Posttes followed by a long and steep Descent to Tre-Le-Bamp. The weather was still fresh and we had some loneliness along the way for a moment, but that would certainly change!

Ascent to Tete Aux ventilations with staircase section

Once we returned to the valley, it was time to ascend to the Tête Aux breathing rooms where we would find the crossing that would take us to Lac Blanc and more towards our alternative route to the Col de la Gliere and the Col Cornu.

The climb was relentless. There really is no other word for it and doing it in the heat under the sun did not help. It was a solid 4 miles of walk directly on the path, rocks and wooden stairs followed by a section of stairs and steel bars that helped hikers on steep rock sections. In addition, traffic of trails was high, so our rhythm was everywhere and we couldn’t really find a rhythm.

I am not the best with heights or exhibition, so I felt quite uncomfortable in the staircase section. I tried to stay focused on my balance and not look down! I could only do this section in good weather, otherwise I would feel very uncomfortable. There were a couple of sections like this dispersed before the TEE AUX Ventilation Crossing.

UP TO REFUNE DU LAC BLANC

Once we arrive at the crossing of Tet Aux, we breathe a sigh of relief because we thought the climbing was over. We pass a little through a little, take some french fries and take some photos before heading towards Refuge du Lac Blanc.

While we went to Lac Blanc, the climbing became really steep again. I don’t know why I expected something different! The traffic of trails became heavier with the hikers of a day. While weaves through the crowds, we spent some small lakes and take the panoramic views.

Lac Blanc was shown at the top of the climb once we reached the shelter. Vance and I immediately take two ice teas, a cranberry cake, a chocolate crepe, a crepe of blueberries and two vegetable quiches. We were straight vibin ‘.

Exploring around Lac Blanc

We got very early at 1:00 pm and the check-in was not until 4:00 pm, so we went to explore more deeply in the mountains beyond the lake. The water was only sold as bottled water in the shelter and had 5 euros, so we chose to walk to the upper part of the current that feeds the lake and filter there.

The current walk was a good time with a mixture of fighting and path of trails. Finally we could find some loneliness away from the great crowds in the shelter. There we leaked water, soak our feet in the ice water and relax under the sun until the time of the registration.

The clouds were gathering on the horizon during our break in the current, so we will see what it brings tomorrow. The plan is to take the alternative of Col Cornu and meet with the TMB for a final climb and descend to Les Houches to finish.

I can’t believe it’s over, but I feel ready. My heart feels full. What adventure has this been.
