Durand Cup 2025: Shillong Lajong beats Indian Navy FT, comes on successive half voices

Shillong Lajong FC came excellent to beat the Indian Navy 2-1 and to go to the semi-final of the Durand Cup football tournament for the second consecutive year, in Shillong on Saturday.

Second half goals from DAMAITPHANG LYNGDOH and Everbrightson Sana Mylliempdah gave the home team the victory after Vijay Marandi scored for the Indian Marine in the first half of their quarterfinals.

The first half saw very few chances until Marandi broke the impasse in the 35th minute. A long goal post from Bhaskar Roy was brought down by Roshan Panna and squared to Vijay Marandi in the box.

The navy attacker showed calmness to complete the keeper and three defenders, and his left shot was bent from the collecting goalkeeper and thought it was just past the two defenders who were on the goal line.

Lajong, after continuous pressure in the second half, eventually found the equalizer in the 69th minute: Damaitphang Lyngdoh’s intended cross of the left wing curls in just after touching the distant pole.

The shaky discipline of the navy donated a penalty to Lajong 10 minutes later when Everbrightson Sana went into the box. The 20-year-old Sana converted from the place and sent the home crowd in Raziernij.
