It stopped around the 17 mile brand last night, where there was a short walk to a little water. Upon reaching the water, it turns out that it was a bit more painful in the rear, but leaked two liters, and then things went sideways. I returned from the water in a different way from the one that I got there, and I had to pass over a close spike wire. There is no problem, except that it was the end of the day, and I was tired and hungry, and I stumbled. In general, it’s not much, but I managed to cut my thumb, push a hole in my water, bladder and hit my ankle bone in a rock. I cleaned the cut and put a curite, put some adhesive tape on the hole in the bladder of water, and then ate and went to bed. I woke up this morning to swell my ankle, so I’m limping the way. It is a bit tender, but it seems to be improving as I walk, but it will certainly stop me today. I don’t think there is really bad in me, but today it will be a day of low mileage unless this improves much better ahead of time.
Yesterday I met many new hikers, but I also found altitude and Spike, whom I have not seen since the beginning of the mountains. I camped with a trio of hikers near my age and the daily mileage near mine. Or at least make miles near what I was planning to do today, but I don’t think I have 25 miles in me today with my ankle feeling like that. All I can do is expect that a lower mileage day along with a little rest, and time gets me a necessary healing. I am currently walking at approximately one mile per hour, but my ankle feels rigid, not painful, and seems to improve the way. We will see how the rest of the day is going.
My foot did better for a while, and then he didn’t. I took a break after 7 miles and felt good, but then never returned. I did 15 miles, and I stopped in a public camp where I will rest for the rest of the day, take ibuprofen and see what is happening tomorrow. In the worst case, I hope there are some weekend campers that can take me back to the city if I need to take a few days freer. I guess the worst case is that I take even more free time, but I still think I can finish the path long before any adverse climate arrives in Washington. We will see how the tomorrow is going.
