Indian head coach under the 17 women’s team, Joakim Alexandersson, on Sunday announced the 23-person team for the Saff U-17 Women’s Championship, planned in Thimpu from 20-31 August.
Alexandersson, who led the India U20S to their first AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup qualification in two decades earlier this month, will now lead the U17s while they are preparing for the Saff Championship in the run-up to the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifications, who will be held in Kyrgyz in October in Kyrgyzyz.
In a new format that the players will offer more playing time, the Saff U17 Women’s Championship will contain four teams (India, Bhutan, Nepal and Bangladesh) that competes in a double round-robin League. Each team plays six games, and the one with the most points is crowned to be a champion.
The young Tigresses start with the campaign against Nepal (August 20), followed by Bangladesh (August 22), Bhutan (24 and 27 August), Nepal (August 29), and finally, Bangladesh again (August 31).
