India presents Nepal to open Saff U-17 Women’s Championship 2025 campaign with a huge victory


The Indian ladies team started its Saff Under-17 Women’s Championship 2025 campaign with style after Wednesday with 7-0 in the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan.

The young Tigresses led 5-0 with thanks to a brace from Abhista Basnett and a goal from Nira Chanu Longjam, Anushka Kumari and Julan Nongmaithem.

Nira picked up her second goal a few minutes before the hour before Anushka also scored her second of the game.

This edition of the Saff U-17 Women’s Championship is played in a double Round-Robin layout with which all four teams bangladesh and Bhutan play the other two parties.

This is just the second edition of the tournament. The first was played in 2023 in which invited Russia burned to the title after an unbeaten campaign. India finished in third place with Bangladesh finished second.

Coaching of the Indian team is Swede Joakim Alexanderon, who recently led the national team to an AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup qualification after two decades.
