Yosemite National Park Rauses shot to hang a transgender flag of El Capitan

FOrmer Yosemite’s ranger, Shannon «SJ», Joslin, said they were fired last week, three months after helping to hang a flag of transgender pride of El Capitan. An official of the park ended Joslin, a five -year -old employee, for «not demonstrating acceptable behavior.»

Joslin’s termination, announced in A publication on social networksIt occurred after they participated in a demonstration on May 20, when a group of climbers deployed a flag of trans pride from El Capitan, one of the most recognizable reference points in the park. Joslin said the exhibition lasted two hours and happened while they were out of service.

«He flew for a total of two hours in the morning and then knocked him down. The captain has had flags in decades and no one has been punished for it.»

The former park rangers accused the national parks service of violating his rights of the first amendment. Joslin wrote in a publication that preservation has been the work of his life, including the preservation of the «rights and security of people» and the «first constitutional amendment.»

In a statement, the National Parks Service said it is «looking for administrative actions against several employees of Yosemite National Park and possible criminal charges against several park visitors who allegedly violated federal laws.» The statement did not specify which laws were allegedly violated or offered details about staff actions.

The day after the flag was hung, the Interim Superintendent of the Park signed an updated compendium. Date on May 20, the new regulations prohibit flags or large banners in the desert without permission. Updated rules also require permits for manifestations with more than 25 people or those that take place outside the «designated places of expression».

An earlier version of the Compendium, dated May 22, 2024, did not include regulation on banners and flags. Other banners and flags have been shown in the Captain in the past, including an American flag upside down in February and a flag that protests the war in Gaza last June. The American flag backwards was hung by the employees of the National Park.

The National Parks Service Declaration said that «several unauthorized demonstrations that involve El Capitan generated numerous complaints of visitors» in 2024. The parks’ service indicated that «the cause does not matter, the exhibition of signs, banners and flags outside the areas of first designated amendments detracts from the experience of visitors and the protection of the park.»
