Zuid -Korea calls on German youth international midfielder Jens Castrop for friendly matches against us, Mexico

Germany Youth International Jens Castrop received his first call-up on the South Korean team on Monday, while looking forward to pleading his plea for next year’s world cup.

The 22-year-old midfielder was born in Germany in a Korean mother and German father and made his Bundesliga debut on Sunday as a replacement for Borussia Moenchengladbach.

He has consistently played for Germany at youth level, including the side below 21, but now looks to represent South Korea.

Captain Son Heung-Min, who recently left Tottenham for Los Angeles FC, was also in the 26-man team of coach Hong Myung-Bo for friendly matches against World Cup hosts the United States and Mexico next month.

«Although Castrop is young, he is a player who has grown consistently and gains experience in the Bundesliga,» Hong told reporters.

«Above all, I appreciate the strong will and feeling of responsibility he has shown in his desire to become a member of our national team,» he added.

Zuid -Korea will appear its 11th consecutive appearance at the World Cup in 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

It plays the United States in New Jersey on 6 September and is facing Mexico in Nashville three days later.
