FIFA threatens to prohibit AIFF if the Constitution is not ratified by October 30

The International Football Association (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have written the All India Football Federation (AIFF), so that a possible suspension is threatened if the Constitution is not formally ratified by October 30.

«Ondanks herhaalde garanties heeft de afwezigheid van een duidelijk en conform bestuurskader nu een onhoudbare vacuüm en wettelijke onzekerheden gecreëerd in het hart van het Indiase voetbal,» schreef Elkhan Mammadov, FIFA’s Chief Lid -verenigingsofficier en Vahid Kardany, AFC’s plaatsvervangend algemeen secretaris – leden van de leden, een kopie van een kopie van een kopie, een kopie van een copy of a copy, a copy of a copy of a copy of a head Sports star has.

Can the Aiff be banned?

Mammadov and Kardany mentioned three points in their letter that the AIFF must adhere to by 30 October, while maintaining no influence of this party:

  • Secure a definitive order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India that approves the revised AIFF constitution.

  • Ensure full coordination of the AIFF constitution with the mandatory provisions of the FIFA and AFC statutes and regulations

  • Get formal ratification of the AIFF constitution during the next AIFF General Meeting.

If the requirements not stated by FIFA and AFC cannot be met, the AIFF can be punished, including the ‘possibility of suspension’.

«A suspension of the AIFF would lead to the loss of all his rights such as FIFA and AFC member, as defined in the FIFA and AFC statutes,» the letter was.

On the field, a ban would endanger the ambitions of India for the AFC Asian Cup 2027, with its third round qualifications against Bangladesh and Hong Kong, planned in November 2025 and March 2026 respectively.

Aiff Constitution Timeline explained

The preparation of the AIFF constitution has been going on since 2017, with the final design that was submitted in July 2022 to the Supreme Court of India.

The court subsequently entrusted retired judge L. Naandeswara Rao with the completion of the Constitution in May 2023, and a judgment on the document is still being dealt with.

The ‘long-term impasse’ has had further consequences, where Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and AIFF have not agreed to a future Master’s rights agreement-the current deal runs on December 8, 2025, the Top flight in the country, the Indian Super League (ISL) jeopardizes.

«Clubs and players remain uncertain about the domestic competition calendar; commercial partnerships after December 2025 remain unconfirmed; and essential functions with regard to development, competitions and marketing are increasingly being compromised,» the letter was.

The 2025-26 season of the ISL was officially put on July 11, and various clubs, such as Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC, have temporarily suspended the operations.

«We have received with regard to reports from FIFPRO of the unilateral termination of the employment contracts of players by different clubs, as a direct consequence of the current impasse, which influence the livelihood of the players and career,» was the letter.

«Moreover, the entry into force of the new National Sports Governance Act in India places an extra and immediate obligation on the AIFF to align its constitution to both national legislation and the mandatory requirements of FIFA and the AFC.»

The Supreme Court heard the case on August 22 and instructed FSDL and AIFF to discuss the future of the League until the next hearing on 28 August.

Consequently, both bodies met in Bengaluru this week and have had constructive conversations, with the following season probably at the end of October or early November. All discussions about the following season are supposed to start after the final decision about the Constitution.

Is India prohibited earlier?

Yes, the AIFF was banned in 2022 for the influence of third parties when the Supreme Court appointed a committee of managers (COA) to run the federation, which striped Praful Patel as president.

The prohibition ended India’s hosting of the U-17 World Cup in 2022, but the suspension was lifted after Kalyan Chaubey was chosen president in new elections within two weeks of the FIFA sanction.

The next hearing about the AIFF case of the AIFF is tomorrow (August 28).
