Isak selected in Sweden Ploeg for World Cup qualifications despite the stand-off of Newcastle

Alexander Isak was selected by Sweden on Wednesday for the coming qualifications of the country, even though he did not play for Newcastle United this season while he is looking for a move.

The striker was part of a 24-man team called by the Swedish coach Jon Dahl Tomasson for matches against Slovenia and Kosovo.

«I am very happy that Alexander Isak wants to be in the team, he is a huge player,» Tomasson said. “The situation in which he finds himself is not perfect and he has not trained with the team.

«But he is a player who can decide matches, and he wants to be part of our team. The World Cup is important for Alexander Isak.»

Isak, one of the world’s top strikers, used a post on social media last week to reveal his dissatisfaction in Newcastle, and said that the club broke promises about an agreement that would enable him to leave in the midst of interest from Liverpool.

He has not been part of the team for the two Premier League matches of Newcastle so far – against Aston Villa and Liverpool – and trains away from the senior team.

Sweden said that Isak will be related to the national team in Stockholm on Monday – the day that the transfer window is closed.
