Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs and Feyenoord captain Sem Steijn both received a first call-up on Friday from the Dutch team when coach Ronald Koeman selected his 25-man selection for World Cup qualifications against Poland and Lithuania.
The Dutch, who won two group G -competitions in June, will organize Poland in Rotterdam next Thursday and are then gone in Kaunas against Lithuania on Sunday 7 September.
Returning to the team is Jurrien Timber, who was injured in June, while PSV Eindhoven -captain Jerdy Schouten is recalled to replace injured midfielder Mats Wieffer.
The first-choice goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, who missed their last two games against Finland and Malta halfway through the year, is also back.
Third choice goalkeeper Nick Olij has not played since his move to PSV, so Roefs gets a chance, while the 23-year-old Steijn beat the door of selection last year, after he scored 43 Dutch League goals in two seasons for Twente for his move to Rotterdam.
In the run -up to Friday’s announcement, the potential absence of Memphis Depay was the greatest care.
