AkturGoglu scores winner to eliminate Fenerbahce from the Champions League race, closes on the side days later


In principle, Benfica has reached an agreement to sell Turkey International Keremkoglu to Fenerbahce, the Portuguese club said on Friday, after his goal in midweek had beaten the Turkish club from the Champions League playoffs.

Fenerbahce pays Benfica 22.5 million euros (USD 26.34 million) for the winger, with additional performance -related payments that can take the total value of the transfer to 25 million euros, the Portuguese club added to a statement.

Benfica said Galatasaray, the former club of Akturkoglu, was informed because it has a preference for the player.

Fenerbahce was eliminated from the Champions League after a 1-0 defeat by Benfica in their play-off second stage on Wednesday with the goal of Akturkoglu decisive for the Portuguese side.

The 26-year-old winger came to Benfica last year after winning successive Super Lig titles with Galatasaray.

Earlier on Friday, Fenerbahce announced that it had said goodbye to manager Jose Mourinho.
