First week in Washington – The Trek

My last night in Oregon

Cascade Locks is a small pleasant city on the Columbia River. A little reminds me of Damascus as it is for the AT. Very for hikers, although his store stinks when it comes to replenishing. How can a trail city not find out what hikers want? But I’m deviating. He ended up staying at the «Bridge of the Gods» hotel. It was half the price of the best western. There is nothing wrong, but, of course, television did not work. But that’s fine, I was so busy trying to do everything I didn’t have time to watch television. One of the other hikers bought Epson salts and gave me a cup. This hotel had jet baths, so it took a sala/messages bathroom. I felt great, my body needed it.

First day in Washington

The morning after my zero I took a breakfast more in this little and incredible restaurant, then I headed on the bridge of the gods and in the state of Washington! I spent the rest of the day walking along a ridge line with good views of Mount Adam’s. He also walked with a type of Washington who knew the berries. We spend time eating orange spiders, raspberries and blueberries. It is becoming late in the year, so much of the fruit is drying. Configure camp along a small babbling stream.

The next day it was going to be difficult. 4,000 feet of climbing and 25 miles. It was a job but I was prepared and I walked. It helps the path of the walk was pine and soft needles. I had some good views of Mount Hood again. Anyway, after a very long day, he arrived at the camp before dusk. The camp had a small spring with the coldest water that I think I have had in nature. I was so hot on the climb, I think I drank a liter on the spot.

It was slow to get up the next day. My body runs out. I am trying to keep my calories pending energy, but I don’t think I am doing very well. The day turned out to be just a cruise hiking, it was in the camp after 25 miles at 5:00. That is early to stop, but I felt that I deserved it. Tomorrow I get into Trout Lake after about 10 miles. It can be there before breakfast ends.

A lot of small snow ponds melts and lakes along the path.

Trout lake

I entered the city of Trout Lake and had some good blueberries. Then they made me summarize, shower and wash my clothes. He took the time in the general store while everyone else walked along the road to get pizza. I didn’t feel like walking so far, I wanted to be cool to start early the next day. I am really pressing to try to finish around September 20 if possible. It will be close.

Cocking in the courtyard next to the general store, it was nice to sleep in soft grass for once instead of land. I caught the trip of 8:00 in the morning outside the Trout Lake, but not before hooking a delicious roll of Huckleberry cranberry cinnamon from the local coffee. Yes, you heard that well, blueberry cinnamon roll. It was as good as it seems. My walk took me through several miles of burning area and beyond Mount Adams. He makes a timed, so he was going through the burn in the morning before he warmed too much. We have been under a heat warning and the burns areas are brutal in warm weather because they are very exposed. The path took me around Mount Adams and gave me some absolutely spectacular views of his glacier. The glacier was formed by different colors and was simply beautiful. He put me in a respectable 20 miles and camped by a stream fed by spring. Spring water was so cold that it really cooled the surrounding area as a natural air conditioning.

Goat rocks

The rain predicted for the next day. The moment I got up, I heard that the rain drops began to hit the store. And then, slowly, throughout the day when I climbed the rain increased. It rained all day. Around 3:00 the rain began to relax. Which was the perfect moment because it is for that moment when I entered the Goat Rocks area. He had been listening that this area was one of the most prominent aspects in Washington and was up to his reputation. Magnificent, I can see why people love it so much. While walking along the path down the area, I heard some rocks falling behind me. When I looked up there was a herd of mountain goats grazing. If they hadn’t knocked down rocks, I would probably have missed them. I walked down the hill and prepared the camp with a clear view of Mount Adams from the entrance. I took a good meal for hikers, I got Trout Lake with m & ms for the desert and coffee while watching the sun. After walking 26 miles mostly in the rain all day, he felt good to be with warm and dry clothes inside my tent with a cup of hot coffee. Tomorrow I have about 19 miles in the Kracker Barrel store (which should not be confused with the cookie barrel) that has refueling, shower, camping and laundry.

He got up around 4:45. I didn’t sleep very well last night for some reason. It was a good night, I just couldn’t sleep. I will be so tired and I will not be able to keep my eyes open after 8:00 pm then I will wake up at 10:00 or 11:00 and I will be awake. Then mix and turn the rest of the night. Anyway, the camp rose and knocked down, I was on its way at 6:00 am I walked to Goat Rocks Ridge, where I had the view at the most beautiful dawn of Mount Adams. Then he walked the crest and crossed the tip of the blade to the views of Mount Rainier. The landscape was incredibly beautiful. There was no soul on the site for hundreds of miles. I felt that I was in the sanctuary of God and he was giving the sermon especially for me, except that I was not speaking a word. And the choir was the sound of a slight breeze, which flowed from melted ice with occasional bird melodies. They were 2 spiritual hours of total loneliness with the mountains, I could not hear any noise made by man. I would say that it could have been my favorite morning along the way. Ah, and I took about a million photos.

After a great morning in the mountains, I returned to the forest and accelerated to the road to get to the Kracker Barrel store. This is where I need to replenish. I discovered that there is a fire near and some advise omit the next 30 miles. The PCTA has not officially closed the path, so I will not think it will be a problem. As usual, the people of the store were peculiar and had extravagant rules. I will not go into details, but it is always something with the people who run business in these small villages. Tomorrow will return to the way for the next section!
