Nederlands International Liebe Martens, voted the best FIFA lady player in 2017, announced her retirement on Monday.
The 32-year-old had retired last year with the Dutch national team after 160 performances, after he won the European championship in 2017, but said she was stopping now.
«As a little girl I dreamed of becoming a professional football player, something that hardly existed at the time,» Martens wrote Instagram.
«I could never have imagined how far that dream would bring me. Last year I retired from the national team, and now I decided to retire from club football,» she added.

Martens started her career at Heerenveen, but had her best success in Barcelona, where she won the Women’s Champions League in 2021. In 2022 she moved to Paris Saint-Germain, where her contract went last season.
«Despite the fact that I had various great opportunities to continue, I chose to take a step back from the sport I love and to close this chapter of my career,» she said.
She had her first child in February.
«It now feels like the time is ripe to make this decision. My top priority is to be the best mother I can be for Lowen, and I look forward to embracing everything that awaits us,» she added.
