Chelsea completed the signing of Alyssa Thompson from Angel City on Friday in the latest big move in women’s football.
The American international signed for a reported reimbursement of around 1 million pounds ($ 1.35 million) on a five -year contract.
«Chelsea is such a great club, one of the best in the world. Being able to play with players who are the best in the world is a great chance of such a young age, and I want to learn, grow and develop a lot,» said the 20-year-old attacker.
Thompson was the first choice in the NWSL design of 2023 and became the first high school student of the competition that was drawn up.
This season she scored six goals in 16 performances for Angel City.
«She is a dynamic winger with an electric pace, who can play on both wings and is very good in one-on-one situations,» said Head of women’s football in Chelsea, Paul Green. «Alyssa is one of the best and most exciting young players in the world, and we look forward to seeing how she develops further during her time at Chelsea.»

Confirmation of the Thompson movement comes on the same day that London City Lionesses completed the France midfielder Grace Geyoro from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported world record compensation of 1.4 million pounds ($ 1.88 million).
Other large deals in this window include the $ 1.5 million paid by the Orlando Pride to sign Mexico star Lizbeth Oalle from Tigres and Canada Striker Olivia Smith’s relocation from Liverpool to Arsenal for $ 1.3 million.
Thompson is regularly an American national team and was in the team that went to the World Cup ladies of 2023. In general, she has made 22 performances with the national team since 2022 and scores three goals.
She scored 15 goals for Angel City More than 69 performances in all competitions.
Chelsea is the dominant power in women’s football in England and wins six straight ladies Super League titles and nine of the last 11.
