PCT SOBO DAY 61-A not so distant memory

Day 61

Home: Tentsite, Mile 1098.3

End: Assembly, Mile 1125.1

Walked miles: 26.8 miles

While I was waking up this morning, I could smell smoke in the air. My half -sleeping brain shouted that it was an emergency and that the air was very full of smoke, while my most rational brain reasoned that there were no fires very close to me. When I finally woke up, I could barely smell the smoke in the air. Only a slight smell remained easily ignored once I started breakfast. It is curious how the primary brain works when there is even a touch of danger.

I took my time preparing this morning since the path looked quite flat today. I still wanted to stay around the 25 mile brand, so I thought I had more than enough time. As I put, the path was mostly plane. Much of the day wandered around a set of mountains in the form of C. honestly, it could have taken a path that crosses half of the «C» and saved a lot of time and mileage. However, that meant gain and loss of additional elevation. I decided to continue with the longest and longer PCT path.

The air was a little warm today, but in the afternoon the rain clouds appeared, giving me some shadow and coldness. Despite feeling the pressure of an imminent storm, I liked that the clouds appear to cut the heat. Even so, I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to overcome thunder and get to my camp before the downpour.

As I approached my destiny, the beauty of this area really impressed me. I was close to Shasta and I had the best view on the road so far. The red hills and the exposed rock gave life to the injured land. There was a lake where I wanted to swim, but the clouds continued to pushing me along the way. I was always on the edge of the clouds; Every time I looked back, they were closer and could even see the rain falling in the distance.

Finally, I arrived at my camp to spend the night, and what place! I was in a chair with the most perfect view of Shasta and had everything for me. The huge mountain that I had been following during what seemed that Weeks was finally right in front of me. The storm clouds wrapped the beak, wrapping it from the view to the sunset.

While I sat and saw the colors change in the sky, I remembered that I was close to where my dream of walking on the pct became a tangible reality. At the beginning of 2020, I arrived at Mount Shasta for a meditation retreat. Knowing that the path was close, I walked along the path and took a photo with a marker to imagine on the PCT. Now, more than 5 years later, I returned to almost the same place as a true hiker.

PCT SOBO DAY 61-A not so distant memory

Thinking about my dream at that time and how I did a reality brought me a tear. I was living the life I had visualized for me and it was much better than I could have imagined! I sat with gratitude for my past and present beings and went to sleep with a complete heart.

And that is a day in the life of a PCT Sobo hiker!
