Inaugural IGPL: Bhullar joins Binu in Lead with a map of 71
Gaganjeet Bhullar has realized his top invoicing with a steady 1st 71 that wore him to the top and in a part of the first place with overnight leader Shaurya Binu on day two of the inaugural IgPL Invitational Golf Tournament on Thursday.
Bhullar (70-71) and Binu (69-72) were both bound to 3-under when the opening event of the IGPL tour was in balance, with two others Kapil Kumar and Harendra Singh, on 1-under and two shots in the back of the third place.
Six others were even on a course that did not produce many low scores and resulted in a tightly modest classification for the last day.
No fewer than 10 players were within three shots of each other when the fight to become the first IGPL champion became intense.
Making it even more exciting was the presence of a female pro, Jahanvi Bakshi, who was in fifth place with five others and only three behind the leaders. A victory for her would be historical and do wonders for Jahanvi while she has been slowly returning from injuries in recent years.
Paying a lot of attention on a busy leaderboard were two debutant professionals, Karts Singh (73-71) and Veer Ganapathy (72-72).
Kartik, Veer and Jahanvi were bound in fifth place next to Sanju Kumar, the local man Ranjit Singh and Saarhak Chibber, who bounced back on the second day with the best of the day after a 75 on the first day.
Bhullar opened with a bogey but gathered with Birdies on the second and fourth before he converted a series of pars. He Birdied the 12th but gave that profit back on the 14th with a bogey for a 71 that brought him to 3 under.
Binu, who started the day as the only leader in 3-under, threatened to pull himself out of the field with early heroic deeds. He was on songs with three birdies against one bogey in the first seven holes.
After turning, he added another one in 12th to go three-under the day and six-under before the tournament.
Then he hit a disastrous patch with a Bogey-Double Bogey-Bogey from the 14th to the 16th and went 1-over par. A birdie on the 17th was like a balm for the last day. After 69 on the first day he finished par on the second day.
Karts Map suggests a roller coaster of a round with five birdies and three bogeys. Until the 16th, whom he birded, he cruised and shot at the total of 2-under for the leadership. Then the putting misery came when he closes the closing two Holes Bogey to fall back to even three behind the leaders.
Lying down were Kapil Kumar, who comes from a walff family, and Harendra Gupta, whose love for and success in the Chandigarh Golf Club is almost unparalleled.
The best woman in the field after two days was Jahanvi, the older sister of Hitaashehee, also an IGPL player, who is in Switzerland in Switzerland this week.
Six players, including Karts and Veer, belonged to the large group in fifth place.
