Day 63
Home: AMMIRATI’S/DUNSMUU, ~ MILLA 1150.6
END: Cabin Creek Trailhead, outside Mile 1169.6
Walked miles: ~ 19 miles
My plan was to go just after the payment to return to the road, but first I had some errands to execute. I woke up bright and early to get to the hardware store just when it opened at 8 am the saleswoman needed a few minutes to finish configuring things, but quickly got the fuel I needed and passed to my next stop.
Can you guess what was? Food! Just on the other side of the street there was a small coffee called Tootsie’s that was highly recommended by hikers. I asked for a breakfast and juice of just made watermelon (free for hikers!) And I was in heaven! I am not a person with a burrito breakfast, but I devoured this as if someone was going to steal. It was so good!
In the midst of my food, 4 more hikers entered. Salt, whom I had seen yesterday in the stream; Dirt Hopper and Pigeon, the couple with whom he had returned on the path of Etna; And misty, the hiker with whom he had arrived in Etna. We all end up at the same restaurant at the same time. We chat Trail, of course, about what was approaching and our next replenishment stop. I loved chatting, but I had to finish my tasks before my scheduled transport time.
I said goodbye to the hikers, I paid my food and went to my next task: the food. He had a package to go to the postle crags offices, but he needed some perishable articles, namely bread and cheese. Yes, I like to wear a small block of cheese and half bar of bread for lunch even though it is heavy. I packed it because I know that I will always want to eat it, and that is better than taking food that will simply sit at the bottom of my food bag forever.

With that done, I returned to the mile back to the shelter and finished packing my things. The owner took me back to Castle Crags, where I waited for the post office to be opened. He had strange hours, but it was supposed to open at 11 am I waited for half an hour, but nobody appeared. After other minutes, I called the Lunsmuir Post Office to see what the agreement was. It turns out that there was a personnel problem, but someone was on their way.
Indeed, a couple of minutes later, a woman appeared and opened the office. I gave him a few minutes to place, then I picked up my package, I packed my things and I was on my way.
Instead of walking back for the way I arrived yesterday, I crossed under the road and walked along the river river along the Sacramento River to connect with the PCT. Walking through the dense tree cover provided a welcome relief from the burning sun. The water seemed so attractive, but I had already delayed at the beginning of today.
Once back on the PCT, I went up some good 3,000 feet. While the first part was well shaded, the second part was completely exposed. I was sweating cubes trying to get there! Besides, I felt a little vague and I didn’t want to walk, so I had many breaks. However, I had Mount Shasta to look while contemplating my life choices.

Finally, I arrived at the top and then I started a long and slow descent through the trees. At a door, a green metal box of the army covered with stickers caught my attention. Magic of the path! An angel of paths named Mark not only leaves sweets for hikers, but also maintains parts of the path according to Farout’s comments. Thanks Mark!

I took some pieces of sweets from the box, then I continued. My camp for the night was near a stream right next to the path. When I got there, I found a whole crew of sobos that I had been seeing from time to time. Salt, from coffee, was there; Zee and John, whom I had seen occasionally; and a couple, Brian and Sora.
Hot of my walk, I quickly said my elegant and then got into the stream. I am not a fan of cold water, so I did not put myself all the way, but enough to cool. Back near the camp, we all cook our meals and have dinner together. It was nice to be in a small sober bubble.

We talked until the sky darkened, providing me, Zee and John with the signal to go find our tents sites. There was a lot of flat space, so I found a small corner to establish and soon I fell asleep from the emotion of the day.
And that is a day in the life of a PCT Sobo hiker!
