Liverpool Manager Slot calls for patience with a new recruit Isak

Fans of Liverpool will gladly see that Premier League record Alexander Isak is making his debut this weekend in Burnley, but manager Arne Slot said on Friday that the Swede would gradually be relaxed in the team.

ISAK completed a 125 million pound ($ 169 million) switch from Newcastle United to the Premier League champions on Transfer Deadline Day, ending a transfersaga that was dragged throughout the season.

The 25-year-old played only 18 minutes this season, with his only appearance from the Bank for Sweden in his 2-0 defeat by Kosovo on Monday.

Slot praised the Swedish coach Jon Dahl Tomasson for the sparing use of Isak and said that Liverpool would also manage his minutes.

«We will treat Alex the same as she is. Do not expect him to be 90 minutes on the field,» he told reporters prior to Sunday’s game.

“That will definitely not happen in the coming weeks. He missed a good preseason; he missed three or four months of team sessions.

“We have to build it up gradually, where we play so many games, hardly any training time, that becomes a challenge.

«But we have not signed him for the next two weeks, we have signed it for six years, so this is what we have to keep in mind and what the fans have in mind …»

Liverpool was also close to the signing of Crystal Palace -defender Marc Guehi on Deadline Day, but a deal for the English international fell on.

«Of course we would have liked him,» said Slot. “If we feel that we can strengthen the team, we will never hesitate to do this. It is not that we suddenly have no options in that position.

“It’s a pity, not only for us, but also for the player, I think.

«But he is in a good place and plays for Palace, where he won the charity shield and the FA Cup with a very good manager. Let’s see what the future brings.»

Liverpool is at the top of the competition table with nine points from three games.
