BThe Rangers of Axter State Park are looking for public help to locate the person or people who recently forged on the sign at the Katahdin Summit. «The letters ‘HM’ and ‘JM’ were carved in the middle of the sign of the Baxter Peak Summit in Katahdin, «says a press release from Baxter State Park posted social networks Thursday night. Based on recent photos published online at the summit, vandalism seems to have taken place at the end of August.
«We are requesting any information that you may have about this incident,» the park wrote. «Are you witnessing the law? Have you observed any publication on the social networks of the individual (s) responsible or heard any other discussion related to this?
The iconic sign in Baxter Peak was first erected in 1933 and has been replaced several times over the years, more recently in 2016. It marks the northern end of the Sender of the Apalaches.
Any person with relevant information about size can call the headquarters of the Baxter State Park at 207-723-5140 seven days a week between 8 am and 4 pm
