Barcelona -Coach Hansi Flick outdated on Saturday in the Spanish national team after Lamine Yamal was excluded from the La Liga collision of his team against Valencia.
The 18-year-old winger did not train with the Spanish champions because of a groin problem prior to the game on Sunday, and is also a doubt to be in the Champions League in Newcastle on Thursday.
Yamal played twice for Spain in 2026 World Cup qualifying victories against Bulgaria and Turkey last week.
«He will not be available – it is a shame for me. He went to the national team with pain, he did not train, he received painkillers for playing,» Flick told a news conference on Saturday.
“In every match they were three goals (or more) ahead, he played 79 and 73 minutes. Between the matches he did not train. This does not take care of players.
«Spain has the best team on the best players in the world in the world. In every position they are incredibly good. Perhaps also if we want to take care of players, young players, it is really sad about this.»
Flick said he had spoken briefly with Spain coach Luis de la Fuente via SMS, but their communication could be improved.
«Maybe it’s all about my Spanish, not (are) good, English are not good. Communication … there can be better,» continued former Germany -coach Flick.
«I was also on this side, (coaching a) National team, and I know how difficult this job can be, but communication with the clubs was always good.»
Flick confirmed that Frenkie de Jong would also miss the Valencia match, but midfielder Marc Bernal is suitable for the first time to return to the team since the suffering of a long knee injury nine months ago.
Barcelona plays the game at their 6000 capacity Johan Cruyff Training Ground because the Spotify Camp is not ready to be reopened.
«I spoke with the players, the captains, and they said it will not have any influence on us,» said Flick.
“If we play in the new Camp Nou, 105,000 (capacity), it might be a bit different than playing in the Johan.
