The Supreme Court instructs AIFF to adopt a new constitution within four weeks; Kalyan Chaubey to see a term of office until 2026

On Friday, the Supreme Court has approved the concept of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with a few changes and has instructed it to hold a general body meeting within four weeks to assume the new constitution.

The court also acknowledged the election of the current office carriers led by Kalyan Chaubey and said that new elections were not necessary. It said that the current executive committee could complete its term of office until the polls planned for 2026.

The world football organ, FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) had written the AIFF, which threatened a possible suspension if the Constitution is not formally ratified by October 30.

The preparation of the AIFF constitution has been going on since 2017, with the final design that was submitted in July 2022 to the Supreme Court of India.
