82-83: Harper’s Ferry and the Russian Mountain

We stayed in the upper loft with three people under us. I did everything possible to not make noise, since no one else was stirring yet, but I failed. I dropped a bottle of water, I hit my head on the inclined roof and my battery bank fell a little. I was really dark and I am super clumsy. The light began to increase at 6, and the rest of the people woke up from that or the noise of my climbing.

We quickly arrive at Weverton cliffs. This was a spectacular view to the Potomac River.

We continue downhill and arrive at the Cross Trails shelter at 9:30. We familiarize ourselves with the owner of the shelter, and showed us those who showed us and installed us with laundry and showers.

After cleaning, we had some visitors! Mary and Anne, very good friends of the family, had arrived! I showed you around our shelter, and we are in the living room a bit.

We did a plan to visit the Ferry of the center of Harper, we arrived at the headquarters of ATC, grab edible and finally lunch.

The historic city center was a bit difficult to navigate at the beginning with a car, but we found the parking area. We carry the transport service to the city and take some coffee and breakfast sandwiches in Battlegrounds Cafe.

We arrive at the local attire and then climb the hill to the ATC. There was a really nice cat called Mewmew outside that accepted many pets.

As we had cleaned in the shelter, we were not immediately recognized as hikers. But we quickly convince the volunteer. We take our iconic photos of Midway Wiker. We are sobos #13 and #14 for the year! Our Katahdin permissions were 19 and 20, and we have had a handful of people who spend us since we get sick, but it feels good to be so early rings.

We walk some prettier stores in the historic center of the center and return to the car. We went to a grocery store and completed a small replenishment with some frozen products for dinner. Thanks Mary !!

After dropping the groceries in the shelter, we returned to the car and arrived at the brewery in the hill in Harper’s Ferry. The views were beautiful. We ask for some food and drinks and enjoy them in some chairs overlooking the river.

After we were satiated enough, they dropped us into the shelter. We say goodbye to Mary and Anne.

We take a nap a little before organizing our things and preparing dinner. We met some of the other guests of the shelter and ended up for the bed. After a couple of frozen pizzas, buffalo cauliflower snacks and an ice cream painting each!

The next morning, we got up and left the shelter before 7:30. He had made pancakes the night before to get us out of the door faster. We start our quick walk back to the path.

We immediately find a turtle that breaks in the middle of the path. They didn’t seem to care.

We had some spectacular views of the city and the train tracks. The morning was fresh and windy to take us through some climbs.

The morning was walking soft and took care of the miles. The degrees in the ups and downs lent themselves at a rate of 3 mph+. It feels so good to be able to move like this for hours at the same time. We don’t even take any rest until lunch. We packed a leftover pizza from the previous night and enjoy it in a good rock.

We enter and leave Western Virginia and Virginia a couple of times.

We have heard a little about «the Russian mountain» in Virginia. It is a series of (many) hills that you simply walk up and down for a while.

It was not so bad and the grades were quite pleasant! Somehow, we reach 20 miles at 2:30. Only 6.5 to go home.

We successfully cross the most scary road crossing so far. A four -lane road with almost cars without stopping. I don’t know how long we stay there waiting for a clear place to cross, but it took too long. I could see this as one of the most dangerous places, point, on the way.

Once our lives were saved, we were in the final stretch. We made a fast side trip to the Den del Bear hostel, led by the PATC (a trail club). We stopped to drink some cold drinks and check the old stone mansion. I forgot to hook any photo.

We finally arrive at the camp. Catdog arrived there just before us, and finally we find some people we start! Will and Sam, Tennessee brothers, also arrived! We spent a little catching up. We have not seen these guys since, in reality, the first day, and now it’s like 83!

Tomorrow morning Mark less than 1000 miles to the left, triples digits! Today we walk a marathon and we are planning to do the same tomorrow. Then, the next day, my dad will find us in the parking lot that goes to Front Royal. A planned zero day with which we have been dreaming from the beginning.

It will be very nice to sleep in a family bed and see more family! The walk also sent me to Nick and me a box of sweets that arrived a couple of weeks ago. I am excited to see what is inside!
