Jose Mourinho celebrates Benfica Return with convincing 3-0 win against AVS


Jose Mourinho started his second spell that was in charge of Benfica with a comfortable 3-0 victory at AVS on Saturday.

Heorhiy Sudakov opened the score at the end of the first half for the visitor, with Vangelis Pavlidis the second of the penalty spot before the hour marking.

Franjo Ivanovic took the routes for Benfica, who moved second in the table, five points behind leaders Porto, after he played a match less.

The veteran Portuguese coach, back at the helm of the Eagles 25 years later, celebrated the third target, pumped his fist and kicked a cone.

The 62-year-old, who also coached Porto in the Portuguese top flight before he left in 2004 to join Chelsea, will be confronted with both teams within the next 15 days.

Mourinho, who won trophies with Real Madrid, Manchester United and Inter Milan, and coached several other sides, was fired by Fenerbahce in August.

Benfica wandered coach Bruno Lage this week after a surprising defeat in the Champions League by Azerbaijani Minnows Qarabag and Mourinho appointed his replacement on Thursday.

His first enchantment in the club only lasted 11 games, but Mourinho said on his presentation that he was now more «adult» and «altruistic».
