Maresca says that Cole Palmer will probably avoid a groin surgery after replacing Manchester United

Chelsea -Baas Enzo Maresca believes that Cole Palmer will avoid the surgery of De Lies after the attacker of England was enforced during the defeat of Saturday in Manchester United.

This season Palmer only made two Premier League start and lasted only 21 minutes in Old Trafford before he hung to the sidelines in a game that lost Chelsea with 2-1.

When asked if the 23-year-old needs an operation with an injury that has been bothering him for a while, Maresca told reporters: “The medical staff, they did not call me about surgery.

“I don’t know if in the coming days or the coming weeks, but I don’t think so to be honest.

“He made a huge effort on Saturday to try to play the game. He did the test, he was fine but not 100 percent. But he wanted to be there to help his teammates and be there in that kind of game.

«Unfortunately it was painful, so we decided to change it. And it is more from day to day, week a week, game-per game to see what it is like and then decide what we do.»

Palmer will probably miss the third round of Chelsea on Tuesday on the third round on Lincoln, with Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile.

Maresca will probably select several players from the Youth Academy, but the Italian admitted that it was a risky strategy, given the potential for a cup upset against a team that flies high in League One.

«These are the games that worry the most because you can slide very easily,» he said. «Football is full of games like this and I am very worried about that.»
