Premier League 2025-26: Bernardo Silva says that the football schedule is «not fair» after Arsenal Clash

The Captain Bernardo Silva of Manchester City has beaten the planning makers of football because they have no respect and fairness after his side had little time to prepare for his collision with Arsenal.

City started his 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday only 66 hours after the last whistle in the home victory of the UEFA Champions League on Napoli.

While the Pep Guardiola team had virtually no time to rest and recover from the Napoli match before the crucial Premier League showdown in North Londs, Arsenal had played his Champions League opener 48 hours earlier on Tuesday on Athletic Bilbao.

Silva felt that the fatigue of the city was decided when Arsenal dominated after the early strike of Erling Haaland before he grabbed a stop-time equalizer by Gabriel Martinelli.

Guardiola had mentioned an unchanged side against Arsenal instead of rotating his players, but Silva is convinced that it was the pressure of the list of fixture that was the fault of the late frustration of the city.

«The reality is that we cannot enter one of the most important games in the season with such a disadvantage, in terms of rest. It is not fair to play one of these games like these. It’s just not good,» he said.

“They had five days and we had two and a half days. This cannot happen in one of the most important games. It’s just not enough.

“I didn’t feel in a perfect condition to play like that, and people who have not played at the highest level do not know what it feels like to play a game like this. You have to be on your best state.

«We saw (Abdukodir) khusanov being injured because these games demand a lot. I just find it frustrating that we cannot be at our best level, simply because of the decision of someone who thinks it is fair to get away after two and a few fewer days than Arsenal.»

Following the complaints of many of his colleagues as the demands on players grow, Silva believes that such a rapid change is too great a burden for shoulder.

«Look, the schedule is the schedule and I understand that you have different competitions, and UEFA, the Premier League and the broadcasters want to earn their money,» he said.

«What we ask for is common sense because this is one of the biggest games of the season. The players must be in the same physical circumstances, otherwise I don’t think it’s fair.»

Silva said that attempts to complain to the legislators of the game would be fruitless.

«They don’t listen to us. We want to change something. But it never changes,» he said.

«It doesn’t really matter, but for the fans, for the respect of the clubs, and for the honesty of the competition, I don’t think what happened was good.»
