Two nights ago I camped right next to the path near a beautiful pond. There was a big flat view, but I was the only store there, and I really appreciated peace and tranquility. On the morning of yesterday, I made the rapid 5 -mile walk to Mazama, where I ate, I picked up, I was refueling, I shower, I re -packaged my backpack, ate again, and then returned to the road.
Crater Lake was absolutely incredible. I had never seen it in person before, and I was only picking up the whole walk on the edge. I walked most yesterday with the hiker named LP, and I really enjoyed his company. It is good to have someone to talk closer to my age and who has many of the same interests. They are one of the first elevators and are ahead of me, but I am sure I will see more of them in the next few days. I have already resolved, but it doesn’t matter how great it is LP, which I will continue walking, my own walk and listening to my body.
Just before arriving at Crater Lake, we walk through a small meadow of thousands of butterflies flying in front of us. It was amazing.
Today I don’t have a plan at all. I haven’t even looked at the map. I know that I would like to finish somewhere on the ranch from 23 to 26 miles, I know that I would like not to be thirsty, and I know that I will rest when I need it. I should probably look at the map here in a minute and make sure you have a tentative plan that achieves those things. But for now, I’m just enjoying the fresh air in the morning of Oregon, and walking slowly waiting for my ankle to relax.
