Premier League 2025-26: Liverpool’s Slot rejects Everton complaints about lack of stopping time

Liverpool manager Arne Slot said that the referee was correct to add only three minutes of stopping time at the end of their 2-1 win over Saturday and rejected suggestions that his side had been to waste time.

Everton manager David Moyes described the amount of added time as «very strange», while Jack Grealish said that the Premier League leader «tried to slow the match occasionally».

The Everton wing player was booked after the last whistle for confronting the referee.

Liverpool had taken a 2-0 lead by the first half of goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike, but Idrissa Gueye’s second half of a strike founded a tense final when Everton crowded hard for an equalizer.

«A lot was said about the added time to Everton, but I would like to have played three or four seconds more because we were in a five-V-two situation at that time,» Slot said the club’s website.

“Now that you tell, I think, all about the mentality we have, always want to score a goal. The three minutes were completely correct, because there were only three moments when a replacement was made.

«There was no time -wasteing, because that is not what we do … and there was no treatment of injuries, a goal scored.»

Liverpool host Southampton in the third round of the League Cup later on Tuesday before visiting Crystal Palace in the competition on Saturday.
