Former Spain and Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets will withdraw from football at the end of the Major League Soccer (MLS) season, confirmed his club Inter Miami on Thursday.
Busquets, 37, came through the Barcelona Academy and brought 18 years in the club, made his senior debut in 2008. He played more than 700 games, won nine La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies, before he moved to Miami albums in 2023 to rehearse albums.
For Spain, Busquets earned 143 caps, which anchoring midfield during the Golden Age of the country that supplied the FIFA World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012.
«I feel that the time has come to say goodbye to my career as a professional football player. It has been almost 20 years old to enjoy this incredible story that I have always dreamed of,» Busquets said in a farewell video on Instagram.
Busquets, generally considered as one of the best defensive midfielders of his generation, added a competition cup and supporters shield in the US. He will close his career with the upcoming MLS -Playoff campaign from Miami.
