India -captain Sunil Chhetri became AFC Asian Cup qualifications against Singapore at the National Camp in Bengaluru, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced on Monday.
Chhetri was one of the three players from Bengaluru FC to join the camp, with Rahul Bheke and Noarem Roshan Singh the other two.
Anwar Ali and Naorem Mahsh Singh from East Bengal had become a member of the camp on the previous day, while Punjab FC Muhammed Uvais, Pramveer, Nikhil Prabhu and Muhammed Suhail released for the National Camp on 27 September.
This is the first national camp for Chhetri under head coach Khalid Jamil, with the Bengaluru Forward excluded from India’s team for the Cafa Nations Cup, where it finished third.
Jamil had mentioned 30 likes for the preparation camp before their matches against Singapore on October 9 (Weg) and 14 (at home in Goa). But only half of them immediately reported to the camp, with 14 players who were initially not released by clubs, while one was not available due to illness.

Three players – Brandon Fernandes, Asheer Akhtar and Farukh Choudhary – were added later, causing the crop to 18. Jamil’s camp has been going on in Bengaluru since 20 September.
«Our preparations are always team -oriented, not dependent on individuals. Yet the absence of players in some positions naturally influences the training,» Jamil had previously told PTI.
“Some players will participate in phases and we work to make the best of the available sources. In the long term I think it is important to work together to find a solution that balances the club and national obligations.
