Champions League 2025-26: Man city ‘not good enough’ for frustrated Haaland

Erling Haaland said that Manchester City should show more energy to end his miserable run on the road in the Champions League after having blown the lead in a 2-2 draw at Monaco twice.

Haaland scored both goals of the visitor in the Stade Louis II to bring his count for the season to 17 in just 10 performances for Club and Country.

Monaco gathered to a level through a miracle strike through the late penalty of Jordan Teze and Eric Dier, created a point for the Ligue 1 side.

«I am furious, I think everyone should be,» Haaland told the BBC. «It’s not good enough.»

City did not extract from home in Europe for a year, although at least has made a point of four consecutive Champions League defeats on the road.

The men of Pep Guardiola were dumped last season for the first time since the 2012/13 campaign for the last-16 phase.

City scraped in the play-off round despite winning only three of the eight competition phase matches for a 6-3 humiliation by Real Madrid over two legs.

Haaland was frustrated by the approach from his side when it tried to protect his slender lead in the second half in Monaco instead of killing the game.

«Of course I don’t feel well, we didn’t win,» he added.

“We do something unnecessary in the second half and we don’t think we played well enough. We don’t deserve to win.

«We need more energy. We need to get them more as we did in the first half and dominated much more.»

City is eighth in the Champions League table with four points of the opening of two games.

The men of Guardiola are confronted for a heavy run in Europe before the end of 2025 with traveling to Villarreal and Real Madrid, while German teams Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund visit the Etihad.
