Premier League close to deciding on scrapping PSR, says CEO Richard Masters

The Premier League will soon decide whether he will expire from his division gain and sustainability rules and introduces a new Squad cost ratio system, said CEO Richard Masters on Thursday.

PSR, introduced in 2015-16 to prevent clubs from publishing too much, led to countless infringements by clubs and has been criticized by teams such as Manchester City, Newcastle United and Aston Villa for limiting the ability to publish.

Masters said that a new system is more in line with UEFA’s financial regulations, which take out the expenditure of a club to players, transfers and agent costs with 70% of their income.

However, the Premier League would have a higher limit of 85%.

«We are talking to our clubs about an alternative system. That does not mean that we do not think that the PSR system is working,» Masters told an audience at the leader sport conference.

“It is about closer coordination with European regulations, the cost ratio of the team costs, which is an initial test.

“The PSR is a back-back profitability test and has its own strengths and weaknesses. No system will be perfect …

«We have to keep these things in balance and continue the conversation with our clubs, and that is an important decision, so we have to take the time to get it right. But that decision is coming.»

The top flight of England is by far the most lucrative football competition in the world and only generates 6.7 billion pounds ($ 9.03 billion) in domestic broadcasting rights only for the 2025-2029 cycle.

Masters said that the proposed higher spending hat would help Premier League clubs to maintain their competitive advantage.

«In UEFA … It is now set to 70%. Our system will be 85% because we always want our clubs to have the opportunity to invest,» he added.

“So if you compare the Premier League system with 85%, if it happens, and you look at the other major European competitions, we have a more tolerant system, too tolerant that some may say …

“The Premier League is built on the back of investments in which international capital flows (are) arrive.

«We don’t want this to be suppressed.»

The new rules, initially intended to be present this season, will be voted by Premier League clubs next month.
