Pro-Palestinian demonstrators approached the gates of the training center of the Italy football team on Friday to demand that the upcoming world cup qualification against Israel is not played because of the war in Gaza.
The protest was part of a national attack and also responded to an auxiliary mission blocked by Israeli troops.
Italy is planned to host Israel in Udine on October 14, but UEFA is considering suspending Israel about the war. The players were not in the Coverciano Training Center in Florence, but the team will meet there on Monday.
Protesters seemed to behave peacefully on the other side of the street of the football complex and stopped a banner who reads in Italian: «Let’s stop Zionism with the resistance.» A protest leader took a microphone and shouted: «How can you still allow Israel, a Zionist and criminal state, to play football matches?»
Dozens of protests have broken out throughout Italy since Wednesday evening, after the Israeli navy has intercepted the global Sumud fleet and held its activists.
On Friday, employees and students took to the streets after the largest trade unions in the country shouted a one -day general strike in solidarity with the Palestinians and the Flotilla. Hundreds of trains were canceled or delayed, as well as various domestic flights and many private and public schools closed.
