Ligue 1 2025-26: Ethan Mbappe returns to chase PSG while Lille troops draw; Lyon loses against Toulouse

Kylian Mbappe’s brother Ethan chased his former club Paris Saint-Germain when he came from the couch to take a late level for Lille in Ligue 1 on Sunday, while Lyon went to a surprise 2-1 defeat at home to Toulouse.

The 1-1 draw at Lille’s Stade Pierre-Murroy, however, was plagued enough for PSG due to injuries to go one point clear at the top of the French competition.

A much changed PSG side made the trip to the north, and replacement sublime second half of Nuno Mendes seemed to have secured all three points for the reigning champion until the 18-year-old Mbappe had the last smile.

«We have given priority to the health of the players … It was a difficult week. After the game in Barcelona (in the Champions League) we feel the fatigue,» said PSG coach Luis Enrique of his starting XI.

A first half shortage on goal chances that culminated in Bradley Barcola who spent a gilded opportunity to break the impasse for PSG while ran remotely but picked his finish.

But the headlines went to Mbappe, who cut into his left foot two minutes later and shot a shot through Lucas Beraldo’s legs, who flashed past the Literse Chevalier.

«Ethan has character, good self-confidence and also qualities for the highest level,» said Lille boss Bruno Genesio.

Lille follows PSG with five points in seventh place.

Lyon falls to Toulouse

New arrival Emersonn opened his account for Lyon with a brace, including nodding in a 96th minute’s winner, while Toulouse is recovered to beat Lyon 2-1.

The side of Paulo Fonseca went to the action level of the weekend at points with PSG at the top of the table, but is now fourth after being grown by Toulouse.

Lyon seemed to be clearly at the top for the time being when Malick Fofana hosted the host for 24 minutes.

Brazilian attacker Emersonn entered the bank’s bank within the last 20 minutes to turn the game upside down and bring Toulouse to the ninth on 10 points.

The 21-year-old summer signing of the Turkish side Goztepe scored his first for Toulouse in the 87th minute with a deflected attempt.

The winner came in the sixth minute of injury time when Emersonn rose the highest to look home.

Lyon assistant -coach Jorge Maciel said it was «a cruel but not surprising result».

«It’s not enough … We can never be satisfied with a 1-0 lead. We can’t get our foot off the gas and give our opponents opportunities,» added the Portuguese.

Elsewhere, Cote d’Azur Rivals Monaco and Nice played an entertaining 2-2 draw in the principality.

Sofiane Diop gave the 12th placed visitor the lead at 29 minutes, before Nice went to 10 men five minutes later when Ali Abdi saw red for two bookable violations.

Diop nevertheless doubled Nice’s lead in the 42nd minute from the penalty spot, but the fifth placed hosts fought back via two Ansu Fati-Spot-Kicks to even end.

Strasbourg Bonsteled 17th-ranked Angers 5-0 to be third, level at 15 points with the second placed Marseille and Lyon. Rennes was held on a 2-2 draw at Le Havre, even though it was two goals in the first half hour.
