Decorated full-back Jordi Alba has announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the current season.
The Spanish full-back Alba has been playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer since 2023. In that time he registered 14 goals and 38 assists and was involved when Inter Miami won the Leagues Cup and Supporters Shield.
«This is a thoughtful decision that I have been considering for a long time. I feel it is the right time to start a new personal chapter and fully enjoy time with my family after so many demanding years in professional football,» Alba said in a statement on the internal Miami website.
«I am very happy with my time at Inter Miami and truly grateful for the support of the fans and for being part of the team’s successes, sharing special moments in the club’s growth. Now my goal is to end the season in the best possible way, giving my all in the play-offs.»
Alba established himself as a household name during his time in Spain, where he played for Valencia and Barcelona. During his time at Barcelona he won six La Liga titles, multiple domestic cups, a UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup at the height of the club’s success.
He also won the 2012 UEFA European Championships and the 2022–23 UEFA Nations League with Spain.
