Newcastle appoint Ross Wilson as sporting director after activating Nottingham Forest’s release clause

Newcastle United have appointed Ross Wilson as sporting director after activating his release clause at Nottingham Forest, the latter Premier League side announced on Saturday.

«Newcastle United have effected the release of Ross Wilson from Nottingham Forest. The terms of any such release remain confidential between the clubs,» Forest said in a statement.

“Nottingham Forest would like to thank Ross for his professionalism and commitment during his very successful time at the Club and wish him all the best for the future.”

Wilson was Chief Football Officer at Forest for two and a half years, after joining the club from Glasgow Rangers. In Scotland he helped Rangers to their first league title in ten years, a Scottish Cup and a place in the UEFA Europa League final.

“My discussions with ownership have been extremely positive, and I have also been in regular contact with Eddie Howe and David Hopkinson,” said Wilson.

The trust, cohesion and alignment we are building is already feeling strong, and we believe unity as a team will be so important as we continue to move the club forward together.”

Wilson’s departure is the second major exit from Forest, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo leaving the club last month after a falling out with owner Evangelos Marinakis.
