Champions Paris Saint-Germain came from behind to draw against Strasbourg in a 3-3 thriller and managed to salvage a point to keep them top of Ligue 1 on Friday.
Liam Rosenior’s men were looking for a first league win in 34 games in Paris and were a goal behind after just six minutes, Bradley Barcola finishing well after a one-two with Désiré Doué.
Doué returned from injury to face his older brother Guéla, and both men had key interventions in the end-to-end drama.
Guéla provided the cross for Joaquin Panichelli and equalized with a brilliant header, and it was Désiré’s mistake four minutes before half-time that gave Strasbourg the lead at half-time.
His misplaced pass found its way to Valentin Barco and Diego Moreira took his scooped pass and advanced a second past the surprised goalkeeper.
Burly forward Panichelli was a consistent handful and it was his physical presence that led to Strasbourg’s third four minutes into the second period. He struggled with a PSG defender and the ball fell to Moreira, who crossed in front of him to strike the ball.
It was the Argentine forward’s seventh goal in eight games and his fourth in the last two, after a double against Angers before the international break.
Strasbourg looked confident on the ball, but the home side exerted increasing pressure and once again the involvement of a Doué brother was crucial.
PSG’s returning winger was felled in the penalty area by goalkeeper Mike Penders almost an hour later and Gonzalo Ramos put them one behind from the spot.
PSG were awarded a deserved third place with nine minutes to go. Senny Mayulu’s shot was parried by Penders, but the 19-year-old reacted smartly and headed in the rebound.
PSG led Ligue 1 with 17 points, one ahead of Strasbourg.
