Manchester United vs Brighton – Amorim provides injury update and reveals expectations for Premier League clash

Ruben Amorim is looking forward to his first hat-trick of Premier League wins as Manchester United manager against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

However, the Portuguese warned against getting carried away with his side’s stunning win over Liverpool in the previous match.

Amorim recorded his first successive wins since taking charge in November 2024, with last weekend’s 2-1 win at Anfield lifting United to ninth in the league and providing a rare dose of optimism at Old Trafford.

But Amorim was quick to pour cold water on any excessive celebration, pointing out how small the margins were in United’s victory over the Premier League champions.

«We use the good spirit to win games. We know this was a good weekend for us, but our focus is on the next game. That is in the past,» Amorim told reporters ahead of Saturday’s match at Old Trafford.

«We have to understand that football has changed a lot, especially in these types of clubs. So we are not thinking about the last match. We think it will be very difficult to win in this match.»

AMORIM WANTS TO ‘KEEP CALM’

«If (Liverpool striker Cody) Gakpo shot 20 centimeters differently then the story would be completely different. So I just want to keep some calm, some direction in what we are doing,» he added.

Amorim acknowledged the pressure that comes with managing a club of United’s stature, especially when results don’t go to plan.

«There are doubts about being a manager at these types of clubs. You don’t win many games, people will doubt you. They have reasons for that,» he said.

«But my position is that we should be clear on our path and not change so much. Because if we win one game, that’s it.»

AMORIM A FAN OF BRIGHTON’S HURZELER

United face Brighton, who are one point behind in 10th place, and Amorim was full of praise for colleague Fabian Hurzeler, who described himself as a “big fan” of the German manager.

«You can see it in the way they play the game. Really intense, the quality is there, they believe a lot in what they do, even under pressure,» Amorim said.

«It will be a very difficult game. Brighton are a team that is very fun to watch. They are very good in build-up, they are very strong, they are very strong in transitions in every aspect of the game.»

“They are doing well in set-pieces this season. They are a team that is really complete and we have to be very smart and go into that match with a real focus on everything we do because they are a very strong team.”

On the injury front, Amorim said Harry Maguire and Mason Mount were doubts after a knock that was «nothing serious», while Lisandro Martinez was close to a return to training as he recovers from a knee injury.
