1.3 additional kilometers in Mt Graylock 0.00

At 3 in the morning this morning, my brain decided that it was time to get up and start walking. I took a long internal discussion to deter the brain of the nonsense of this plan. I think the brain had this idea as a result that the rain began to fall at that time in the morning, and was anxious to splash some puddles.

At 6 in the morning I woke up once again, and the constant rain pattern convinced me that this would be a good time to stay in bed and write a blog. Around 8 in the morning, the rain had decreased to rain constant, and I packed and left the store. After packing the store, I used the free bicycles conveniently spaced in the shed to hang my store and let it dry before packing it. I sat in the little shed and loaded my battery.

At 9:30 am I moved, as yesterday, the first kilometers were through the city of Cheshire.

The townspeople seemed to have a slight inclination towards one end of the political spectrum, with many signs that adorn the fences of the local houses.

Graylock climbing

I guess it would be fair to say that Mt Graylock was the first considerable hill that I have found since I started the walk in New York. The climb was excellently qualified, with sides, curves and large extensions of flat walk while ascending around 800 m elevation. The walk was really beautiful even with constant rain, and the forest changed significantly as the climb progressed.

After about three hours of climbing, I was approaching the top of the mountain. Some days hikers were on the access of the road to the summit, and they warned me several times to observe my balance, since it is common to take a fall in a rainy day. Fortunately, Inov8’s Trailfly corridors continue to stick as a glue to almost all the surfaces on which it carries them, so so far I have been free.

I arrived at the summit at 1 PM and felt great due to the quality of the path. The rain had stopped, so I sat for an hour and had my usual delight at the time of the tortilla lunch while talking with some day hikers that roamed.

The weather avoided any vision from the top, so there was nothing to do more than go down the other side of the mountain towards the next camp.

I made a Boo Boo

The problem that I often have when descending from a decent climb is a complete lack of consciousness of the path, since I allow my mind to roam while I do the aerobically easy to descend task.

This would prove to be a fatal mistake when I ended up on a random path that was directed by the mountain many kilometers where I would need to be.

I realized my mistake when I finally noticed a tree with a blue fire. Readers familiar with my story so far will notice that I have done this before, and I cannot say how many words I exchanged with myself while looking at the map on my phone and I saw the reach of my mistake.

I had added more than 2 km to my walk and, more importantly, I had to go back to Mt Graylock once more for a sum of 175 m of additional elevation. It would be fair to say that I had not impressed me.

I arrived at the camp around 4.30 pm, and I was very happy to put the store and crawl inside.

I went out to dinner, a delicious chili with dried Chile flesh that I had found in a hiker box a couple of days before, and after a little medium stretching of my legs, I retired to my cave, I put on all the clothes I had and expected not to freeze near the base of this mountain.
