16 experienced through excursions reveal your least favorite team

TTrying to find its ideal equipment configuration includes a lot of proof and error. While risks in a new team sometimes produces unexpected victories, another team can leave it in the tail in the post office in the middle of a walk, desperate to send it home.

We asked a group of long -distance experienced hikers who failed them completely on the path. From awkward sleeping pads to frustrating shelters, their failed experiments offer some lessons on what to avoid when building their final configuration. However, remember that what did not work for a person could still work for you.

Jared Zornitzer | Gear less favorite: Rei Flash Stretch Rain Pants
MSRP: $ 159 | Weight: 11.6 Oz

«These have never really been waterproof, even from day 1. I washed with Nikwax and I returned them to water with Nikwax, and still absorb water. They are not breathable either. I get very hot using if it is not actively raining.»

Molly Parham | Gear less favorite: Luchemiith Shorty Tooth Brush
MSRP: $ 2.95 | Weight: 0.26 Oz

«I was small and light, but it was really soft and it didn’t seem that I was doing a good job. The toothpaste observations that Litesmith sells were decent, however, I felt that I could not properly clean my teeth with the toothbrush. It was too soft and I don’t recommend it.»

Mark «Jackrabbit» d’Alessandro | Gear less favorite: Flip fuel transfer device
MSRP: $ 35 | Weight: 1.4 Oz

Ellie Saul | Gear less favorite: Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60
MSRP: $ 315 | Weight: 34.2 Oz

«It simply does not work with my body, it does not matter how I distribute the weight or adjust it. In addition, the adjustment straps slide all the time, so even if I do something comfortable, it must be readjust again in an hour. I wanted to love it so badly, but it was destroying me.»

«They are very expensive for what they are and man, they are easily crushed! Seriously, they work well as rain pants, but on a bad mood the legs of the legs and the seat will be crushed quickly.»

Continental Divide/Colorado Trail through the least favorite team

Rolf Asphaug | Gear less favorite: Columbia Silverlight shirt
MSRP: $ 45 | Weight: ~ 6 oz

«I love a buttoned shirt, but damn it, there is something in the material of which this shirt is made that makes it the most stinking garment on the day three or more than one walk. I have had fellow hikers who complain about the smell.»

Christopher «Goosehawk» Bewell | Gear less favorite: Switchback Nemo
MSRP: $ 49.95 | Weight: 14.5 Oz

«Closed cellular foam pads that cost more than $ 50 are a crime. In addition, comfort decreases rapidly through use and makes the pad is less effective for a chaleston Chew. A padded or muttering pillow is similar in weight, much cheaper, and its stiffness is compressed with the measure.»

Dani buck | Gear less favorite: Vessica water bottle
MSRP: $ 16.99 | Weight: 2.4 Oz

«I wanted to like this team, and I gave it a good test trying it as a clean bottle and a dirty bottle to filter water. The brand was lost because it is too weak and it would let me pass through my backpack when it is half full. Fortunately, I hear that CNOC is developing a new bottle that solves only this problem, so I am excited by the innovation that comes next.»

Anessa «Daze B» Bensley | Gear less favorite: Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 3400
MSRP: $ 379 | Weight: ~ 31 oz
