Our morning began as always. Riro a little, reluctant to get up. Finally, I put my outfit day and put everything in my backpack, starting with my comforter. I pile my pillow, nocturnal outfit and air mattress at the top and close the garbage compactor bag that keeps everything dry. Everything else enters a thin gray bag or a yellow food bag.
I painfully go through the store while my joints heat up and limp a place to urinate. My body is very rigid every morning, and the only way not to limp is simply moving.
We work together to store the store. I carry the posts outside my bag, and Nick is responsible for the body.
I brush my teeth and hair and follow it on a low bun. The socks continue, then shoes. Make coffee first in my talent bottle and order snacks for the day. Once I have taken a cup, I mix the instant breakfast of carnation with water and add granola protein for a kind of cereal. I will also add a spoonful and half of the powdered microgreens to a wide mouth gatorade bottle for some micronutrients.
I fill my food bag on my garbage bag, and Nick and I turned to complete our business meetings between the trees. We help each other to wash our hands. We both pack and verify our site twice for anything we have not hooked.
That is our morning routine almost every day.
On this particular day, I was able to go back slightly to a private parking lot, so I didn’t have to dig a hole. Advantages of national parks.
We entered and leave the road and the path, depending on certain points of view that we wanted to hit. At first, we decided to go through a tunnel under Mary’s Rock instead of reviewing it.
We were going to get to a road just after lunch in Skyland. This is the largest of the roads and has an exclusive menu. We both ask Britket Cheesteaks, but we are not impressed, especially for the price of $ 18. I will keep chicken tenders.
We reach many beautiful views on both the path and on the road.
We arrive at the Big Meadows camp just around 6 pm. We made a reserve because they have showers and running water. It turns out that the showers are operated by coins. We decided to omit this because we shower a couple of days ago and we already gave the park $ 30 for something that is not worth that price as a backpack. Oh, well, stinking for a few more days.
We had a couple of beers in the Lodge Tap room before dinner at the camp and withdrawing to the store.
Surely I was occupied by a Wednesday night. I forgot how many campers need to open and close the doors of their car. Tonight is a night for the ear plugs, that’s safe.
The next morning he brought a spectacular dawn. The luxury of running water was the center of our morning. That and around six parapents who rose exceeded our breakfast table!
The coffee in the shelter near the camp opens at 7:30 am, so as soon as we packed, we have a couple of chocolate coffees and crosss for later!
The weather was not supposed to be greater than those of the 70s at any time, so we decided to make a longer day in terms of mileage.
Our plan was similar to yesterday, we would walk along the path for some and the way for the other bits. This would help us maximize views and hook some easy miles.
We have lunch at a good picnic stop and confirm plans for the next few days. Tomorrow would be another 25 mile thrust, so we can spend time in Waynesboro with friends. Then, the day after that, we would arrive at the brewery of the devil’s backbone, where we could camp free!
We still have a lot to wait on this path. With the many visits we have had and we will have soon, we have realized that this WV/VA area is for us. We got rid of the apartment we had before walking, and most of our belongings are stored in the houses of our parents. A great hiking goal was to concentrate on a place to eventually move and stay for a long time. At least we have reduced it to a region, and we also have a quite accurate city in mind. But there is still time to change your mind!
We woke up the next morning a little later than usual. We had a last way to stop, and it does not open until 9 am was only 4 miles from our camp, so we had time to stop.
When we arrived, we are glad to see him open but discouraged that he was the smallest and less supplied on all the roads. The grill does not open until 11 in the morning, and our only food options remembered ultraprocessed foods that we already had. I settled with a cream cream cake, dill pickles and a cold beer canned. Nick got Jalapeño Jerky, Pizza Combos and a Coca -Cola Cherry.
The walk and the views were beautiful. Shenondoah’s days are beginning to combine. It is a large part of the path, but I am ready to finish this section.
We made plans with some friends for the next day when we left the park and approached Waynesboro. We will see a good friend for lunch, and then others will pick us up and accommodate us at night. As miles have easily been coming for us, we end only 8 miles from this meeting point at the end of the day.
The camp we choose is the southernmost shelter in the park. We expected a house full on Friday and we had alternative plans to walk to a point of view if there was no space. We were able to launch our store in the last place, so it was quite grateful after another long day.
Dinner for me was a dry pork package that rehydrated with a little water and a spicy miso ramen. I ate them separately and really enjoyed this strange combo.
After about four solid walks without shower, my feet began to smell of old cheese. Gross, I know, but I can’t help it. As we had water in this camp, I could use some to wash my feet (not close to the water source, of course!) It felt so good not to have sticky and stinky feet, although until the morning.
