Carlo Col refuge for Baldpate Lean-To

I slept well and just woke up several times in the early hours of the morning. During those times, everything was still. There were no squeaky birds, or hikers moving, or even no whisper of leaves. There was absolutely no wind. The package went well and started the spur trace back to AT. My legs were still tired of yesterday and probably still for the robustness of whites as well. But, the walk must continue.

So, first was Goose Eye Mountain. There were some rollers to start and then glimpsed the highest peak. From that moment on there were a series of banks, each that offered a flat rest and view. In most of these, I could look up and, usually, see that same peak up, what I liked. While walking, I noticed that birds were taking it in turn to call, not all at the same time as a choir, but rather as a short individual. I liked this too.

Maine has already been the winner of the most interesting path structures such as stairs and reinforcement bars and others. I think I am a fan of this, but I am sure that some people prefer that it is without and «all natural.»

The same staircase indicated, but looking out

There was a short side path to the 3,870 feet of goose Eye West Peak. Originally, I thought I would only walk, but after having examined the clear upper part exposed while I climbed, I wanted to check it. I am happy to have done it. The side path was not bad and it was a good place, a beautiful morning and a beautiful opportunity to sit down and absorb everything for a minute or seven.

I took this photo on the way back to the AT from my mountain break. I think you are usually looking for the address that I am walking, as in … those are the mountains in which I go. I was even more excited about the rest of Maine.

The path was kept high and reached Goose East East Peak and the North Peak too. However, even up there, most of the path is still wooded and only salts to get the walks. I feel (I know) my photos give a false idea of how the path is as a whole with respect to that. I choose all the most prominent aspects that cause my intrigue and that is what I show, while most have less greatness. Like these next two, I spend much more time looking at scenes like this …

But there is something in the open spaces that lifts my mood …

There was an impressively extensive construction of the Paseo Marítimo through these pieces.

And there were parts of the path that remained open. If you haven’t collected it yet, it was a great morning. I was pleasantly surprised and delighted by Goose Eye Mountain.

All that was within the first three hours of the day, which covered the first five miles of path for the day. Shortly before 9:00 am, I arrived at the full goose shelter, I walked along a side path towards its water source and I had the second break there with a little cleaning.

When I drink coffee at the Gorham service station, I acquired three additional creams. I intended to have one up to date with my morning camp beer until I ran away. Instead, I ended up pouring all three in my cup today to have a Macchiato Carmel -French vanilla cookie flavorbow. It was delicious and did not regret the Super Mix.

Then, Sumi and I would go through another of the famous sections of the Sendero of the Apalaches. Maybe some of you have heard of that … Mahosuc Notch? This is how the map application describes it:

«The trail path (following the Mahoosuc Trail) makes its way through a mixture of rocks upset at the bottom of this deep cleft between the milling mountain and the Mahosuc mountain. Wait that its rhythm of hiking is drastically slowed here, since the path is almost both the height of rocks and the hunting of rocks and hunting of rocks in this section.»

A little before the Eastern Eastern entrance, Batwoman reached me. After stirring a steep last part, I took a short break, took a picture of these flowers and then we both entered.

We start at 10:45 am and without speaking much, we remember that we agreed to join, or at least keep in the ear.

As things went from Trail to Jambrillas from ravine of giant rocks of size larger than the car, one of the first things we noticed was the temperature drop. It seemed that suddenly we entered a refrigerator without appointment or something (later in the middle, we would rise in a place enough to feel heat and humidity again … It was a fairly remarkable change). A fairly pleasant temperature, we don’t complain about this switch. And there was emotion in the air, I would say. The emotion mixed with some fear about the unknowns of this resistant mile of the AT, we had heard so many rumors about.

In addition to the unique large -scale rock structures that we were seeing were also some fun things of small scale. I was having a lot of fun! We took our time and were cautious, but we also kept it constantly forward.

A little bright mica. This has become quite common and I have intended to publish some photos, but they never seem good

We find ice! At the end of July, there was still ice in the bowels of the notch. The cliffs from above do it, so very little sunlight gets here.

Through the labyrinth there were fires and occasionally painted arrows of white pointing the road. That said, it was difficult to continue and know if we were on the «correct» path. Often, he moved on a mini exploration mission and tried to inform Batwoman what it was. Sometimes it retired and I keep going, and other times we both went on separate roads. Like Reese’s, there is no incorrect way to pass through the notch. I think that is what the people of Maine say anyway. However, I suppose that is not entirely true, the wrong way would be to hurry and risk hurting.

At first, it seemed that the rock had somehow embodied the small pine needles, but I think this is the way the minerals crystallized or something. Great regardless of what is happening, even if I don’t understand.

Spilling, climbing, climbing, shining and moving forward, he felt like a fall or a scratch and the resulting injuries were very possible at any time. That is one of the reasons why it was very nice to go through the notch with Batwoman. I felt that it helped to be taken in those moments when we spent our packages through small cracks and tunnels, but also to have a sound board to talk about things.

The rare cnidary actiniaria, or is a common name for the anemone of the land of Mahosuc Rainbow! They can only be observed in this ravine at the end of July, while the rain is slightly spraying and the fourth cycle of the moon is increasing.

In the middle of the way it began to rain and our spirits may also have moistened some. But we continue in him and in less than two hours they appeared on the other side.

In the western end of the notch there was a good current and we both leaked and we had a break to lunch there. The rain continued splashing, but was lightened when we started packing. Almost when we advanced, Reef, Bunny Rabbit, Pony Boy and Swampfoot updated. The last two continued to press and the previous two stopped to have their own rest. I found myself in the middle.

The climb after notch goes to something called Mahosuc Arm. It is super steep and rock slab and earns about 1,500 feet of elevation at a distance of 1.3 miles. On the way, I met Birdster, Snap Pea and not. Snap Pea had an unpleasant fall/slide that scraped his thigh quite well. We all arrived at the top together and opted for a well -deserved break. Feeling that the morning had moved slow (because of food), I kept walking.

A goomba!

After the climb, I kicked it. Towards the end of the day, Shocker was exhausted and I had to dig during the last miles. He ended up hitting and jumping with Swampfoot and Pony boy, but these guys are super hikers and have a faster step than me.

Swampfoot and Pony boy up, can you see them?

I arrived at Baldpate Leat-to at 7:00 pm and Pony boy and Swampfoot welcomed me. I configured my tent immediately and I could cook. I joined those boys and two hikers of sections for dinner in a burning fire, but my presence was short duration. The store and the dream called my name! What an incredible day!

I have not done this in a long time and this was great, so 17 golden stars for you if you got to the bottom!
