Although I could not do much work last night, I still had such a great and calm stay in the old motel of the city of Sierra. I even slept a little this morning because I was planning to stay for breakfast at 8 am. The general store on the other side of the street opens at that time.
Taking into account the fact that I am normally walking at 5:30 am every day, sleeping until around 7 am is all luxury. Little by little but I really packed and ready to start. Then I climbed the stairs and ended up talking with one of the guys who is helping with the hotel. It seems that two guys bought the place together, but some people are hanging out to help keep things in operation.
I ended up talking with some hikers and one of the guys who worked at the hotel. And I was still tilting towards breakfast, but I decided to ask the only boy if I could take a walk. He said that if he could go a couple more hikers, then he would definitely do it. It seems that he only tries to use his time in a productive way and not take a walk in a person a minute and someone else travels to the next.
After climbing a few miles, the path climbed above the tree line. Then he was riding along a crest during the following miles.
I thought that getting a hitch from the city early in the morning was going to take a long time. Then, after he offered to take me back to the path, I decided to lose breakfast. I would simply eat some of my outpatches of my backpack and start the day before. In addition to leaving the city, the path goes up during the next seven miles. It would be great to get that in the way as soon as possible before it heats up too much.
For my life, I cannot remember the name of the man who gave me a couple of other hikers back to the road. But he is a friend of Nate who runs the hotel. He left some of us and I was walking around 8:20 am which is definitely long before I had been walking if I had stayed for breakfast at 8 am then, in the end, I think I probably made a good decision.
From there, I started climbing for the next two hours. I had about 7–8 miles uphill quite gradual. The first miles were all the change and were super nice and easy. In fact, I vividly remembered this section of the path. I felt good and was not very hot. After climbing the curves for a while, it eventually climbs above the tree line. Then, the Hach path along a narrow crest during the following miles. I passed the 1200 mile score around this era. Then I kept climbing until I got on the top.
Crossing the 1200 mile PCT score.
This is one of those climates in which you can see super far in the distance. The path went on the side of this mountain until it finally disappeared at the top. He took so long to get there, even though I could see him for years. When I finally opened up and on the top, there were some hikers hanging there. They encouraged me to do the secondary path to the peak, but I wasn’t having it. I have done almost all the small side trails on the PCT. But this is not the year for that. At least not for me.
Not long after that, I arrived at the next water source and decided to fill. Very soon I will come on an alternative route along the PCT. I did not take the alternative in 2017, but I took it in 2022. The main difference is that instead of descending significantly, and then rising again, the alternative route remains high along the crest. It shaves a bit of elevation gain and a few miles. But more than anything, I just remember that it is very beautiful.
I carried this coconut water outside the city and enjoyed it at the top of the climb.
The idea of staying on the crest seemed very pleasant. And there is almost never an opportunity here to shave mileage. At least with what I am doing. Which means that I can go further today and will make my life easier for me to stop me in the city.
I did not think there was water in this alternative, so I filled with the fountain before continuing. Then he walked for another mile more or less on the PCT before deviating to this blue line. Which takes you through a couple of parking areas on dirt roads. I remember that the last time I was here I saw tons of people around. But today I was quite calm. It would pass at least a couple of cars and an installed camp. But I don’t think I saw another hiker on the way all the time.
I really loved these high mossy trees.
After a while to walk on the crest, you eventually get very beautiful views of Deer Lake in the distance. That was really beautiful and I could enjoy those views for a while while wrapping the top of the crest around the lake. Around this time, I also received some service for the first time in Forever. I really expected that after leaving the Sierra and northern California, my service would improve. It is really not a big problem, but it is in terms of load and social networks. Having service makes my life much easier.
Looking towards the lovely deer lake underneath.
Because of that, I managed to raise some things, which was wonderful. Then, after a while, I finally connected to the PCT. I think that the entire alternative shaved some elevation gain and approximately three miles along the path. Which is absolutely perfect because it meant that if I go to about 34 miles today, it will actually be as if I had walked 37 more or less miles today. I think many people would use these razed miles as an excuse to have a little shorter day. That would also be really pleasant. But I will use it as an opportunity to remember some miles so that the next time I go to the city, I can have a shorter day in the city.
In the afternoon, some thunderstorms entered. But the bad weather did not last long.
The rest of the day ended up being quite pleasant and easy. There was not much elevation gain until closer to the end of the day. I would have another climb, but apart from that, I was mostly sailing. I could eat a lot of food, which was incredible. And it rained slightly a little at the end of the afternoon. I also ended up spending a ton of hikers at the end of the afternoon.
Open views while climbing along the crest.
In a moment, I passed by a girl who was sitting right next to the path. We chatted for a second and she ended up asking me a lot of questions about what I was doing. I have happened several times this year that once someone realizes what I am asking, he asks many questions about his final PCT timeline. With that I mean, they want to know if I think they can end the way on time. Actually, a surprising number of people asks me that. I think because at this time some hikers begin to get nervous about whether they can end on time. You really don’t want to be in Washington on the PCT too late until October.
However, every time someone asks me this, I am usually quite good to reassure their mind. We are really arriving in northern California, so I think many hikers are still mentally in the mountains. Which is a really hard section of the path could cause some doubts. You may wonder if your rhythm will continue to be slow and things like that. But I keep telling people that things become much easier in northern California and Oregon.
Some beautiful flowers that grow right next to the road. I have been loving these and looking for an opportunity to get a good photo of them.
The hiker who was chatting with the wound standing and we started walking and talking together. And something else happened once we started talking for a while. I think they realized that they were never going to see me again and that I didn’t know anyone they were walking with. Once they realized this, they realized that they could let off steam on almost anything in the world. Then she began to tell me everything about her tramily and how they separated recently. There was not a lot of drama there, only classic circumstances of trails. I was also telling me about the boy on the road with which I was having an adventure and all kinds of other things.
Continuing along the path when the sun began to wear.
As someone who spends most of his time walking alone, it was really pleasant to have someone to cotilize a little. He felt great to be part of that. However, not long after that, we pass a stimulus trace to a water source. And what happened later was even more fun. The hiker with whom he had been chatting noticed some of his friends next to the water and a screwed without barely saying goodbye. Easy Come Easy Go. It was fun while it lasted.
Tonight was absolutely beautiful. Another big night to walk late.
I just kept sailing after that and had a great time. It seemed that it would be in my camp just before it darkened. And that would even be doing about a day of 35 miles today. Which I always think is quite good considering that I woke up in the city this morning. Every time I can do more than 30 miles after spending the night in the city, I feel quite solid.
Towards the end of the day I started the final climb. I love northern California because the climbs are also so gradual. I really don’t mind getting up a couple of thousands of feet by 6 or 7 miles. Honestly, that is my favorite method of climbing. In addition, when I began to climb the sun, I was just beginning to wear. It ended up being a really beautiful end of the day. I had seen some comments about the store towards the top of this next climb. So before that I drink some water in case.
Views as this are often enjoyed with the company. But tonight, I was happy to enjoy them alone.
I was glad to have done it because I ended up finding an incredible place to prepare the camp to spend the night. It was just outside a dirt road, although it didn’t seem to have a lot of traffic. There were many flat points around and the views of sunset were the best part. The sky was full of pink and orange, and I could see everything from my store.
What an incredible camp was this.
There were tons of deer in which I noticed immediately. But I hope they wouldn’t get with me or my things. The worst part of the deer is that they often run like peanuts and make a lot of noise at night. But at least I had already seen them, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case. I settled the store and then ate a dinner and relax. Unfortunately I had no service, but that was fine. I did a little work on my phone and then I called him one night.
