Aditi Chauhan announces pension of professional football

The Indian goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan announced her retirement of professional football on Wednesday after a 17 -year career.

«After 17 unforgettable years, I am with deep gratitude and pride from professional football,» she wrote in a message on social media.

In 2015, Aditi attracted the attention when she became the first Indian woman to play in the Women’s Super League in England when she drew at West Ham United.

“This game gave me more than just a career; it gave me an identity. From chasing a dream in Delhi to hardening my own path all the way to the United Kingdom, where I ran my master in sports management and played for West Ham United – I walked a way without a clear map.

Despite the pension, she said that she still has enough left in the tank to give to the sport.

«While I am now entering life in the field, I wear that faith with me – no longer as a player, but as someone who is committed to building a stronger path and ecosystem for the next generation. My second half is about giving back to the game that gave me everything,» Aditi wrote.

«The formula remains the same: dream great, believe in yourself and stopped the work,» she concluded.
