AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026: Chinese Taipei beats Vietnam to destroy India’s quarter-final dreams

India’s chances of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup suffered a major blow as the other teams in the group stepped up their hunt for a place in the last eight.

Chinese Taipei, who had fallen 0-2 to Japan in their opening match, turned the tide against Vietnam, with Su Yu-hsuan scoring the winner in a 1-0 win in Perth on Saturday bsf7.

Vietnam, quarter-finalists at the previous edition, had nine attempts but none on target, while Chinese Taipei remained organized at the back to maintain their lead.

A late VAR review for a possible penalty for Vietnam yielded no decision, and Taiwan provisionally moved into second place in Group C on three points, while India and Japan were due to meet later in the day.

The result meant India had to beat the odds to at least hold Japan to a draw or win by a big margin against Chinese Taipei to have a chance of progressing past the group stage.
