South Korea held hosts Australia to a thrilling 3-3 draw on Sunday to lead its group at the Women’s Asian Cup in front of a huge crowd in Sydney bghg.
The two teams finished on seven points each in Group A, with the Koreans topping the group on goal difference.
Australia will now face a tough quarter-final against either North Korea or China, while South Korea will remain in Sydney to play one of the top third-ranked teams.
South Korea, who eliminated Australia from the 2022 tournament, faced an early storm from the home side.
It should have been a goal in the 10th minute when Steph Catley, who had only the goalkeeper to beat, fired high.
Australia were punished for its waste four minutes later when the Koreans struck on the counter-attack.

Jeon Yu-gyeong found space on the left before sending a precise cross into the penalty area.
Mun Eun-ju burst through the Australian defense and gave goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold no chance with her finish.
Australia leveled when Alanna Kennedy fired home in the 32nd minute.
The hosts then sent the home crowd into a frenzy when Matildas superstar Sam Kerr fired at the near post in stoppage time of the first half.
South Korea equalized in the 53rd minute when Kim Shin-ji converted from the penalty spot.
They took the lead three minutes later when substitute Kang Chae-rim shot wide and beat the diving Arnold.
Kennedy’s equalizer in the seventh minute of stoppage time came too late to make a difference, giving South Korea the easier path into the knockout rounds.
